—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, January 13,1979 12 Livestock market an Omaha Cattle January 11,1979 Weekly 51 - cattle - compared with previous week’s close - Slaughter steers and heifers closed 3.50-4.50 higher. (Tows were mostly steady and bulls firm to 1.00 higher. Four day receipts 16,700 compared 10,500 last week’s holiday shortened period and 15,100 a year ago. The slaughter steer and heifer trade was active under a good demand each session and sharp daily price upturns were strongly supported by a rapidly advancing carcass trade. There was a fairly liberal percentage choice steers and heifers included and a few loads choice and prime each day. Grade and weight were sometimes not a major price determining factor as good and choice beef carcasses often sold at virtually the same price. Major buyer consideration was usually aimed at yield grade and the likely dressing percentage of cattle which often carried a moderate to heavy coating of mud; loadlots carrying a sizable percentage of yield grade 4 usually found least inquiry. Steers made up approximately 45 pet. of week’s total and heifers 31 pet. cows comprised 12 pet. and feeders 8 pet.
