2t—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, November 25,1978 Kutztown Young Farmers hold corn contest By LAUREL SCHAEFFER Staff Correspondent KUTZTOWN - By only one tenth bushel above second place, Ralph Banner, Kutz town, captured the first place honors during the 1978 Kutztown Area Young Farmers Corn Growing Contest Banner took the top spot in com yield with Doebler’s 78X, producing 155.8 bushel per acre while David Schantz, Alburtis, placed second in yield with Pioneer 3334, producing 155.7 bushel per acre. The results of the contests were given during a meeting held by the Young Farmers at the Kutztovrn Area High School, here, on November 20. Taking first place in corn silage was David Schantz with 27.1 tons green weight per acre, corrected to 65 per cent moisture. Schantz planted Pioneer 3535 for this yield. Taking the honors in com quality was Kenneth Schlegel, Fleetwood, with Doebler’s 70XSS followed by Kermit Schlegel, Fleetwood; who planted Pioneer 3368.
