Market courtesy of USD A. Omaha Cattle November 16,1978 Weekly 51, cattle, com pared with previous week’s close. Clsoing prices on slaughter steers and heifers were 75-1.00 higher, few late sales 1.25-1.50 up. Cows closed 50-1.00 lower, and bulls were fully steady. Four day receipts 13,400 as compared 13,700 previous week and 14,000 a year ago. For the first time in four weeks, closing prices on slaughter steers and heifers were higher than at the end of the preceding period. The upturn was registered mainly on an active mid week session on small supplies, apparently in at least a partial reaction to the latest “Cattle on Feed” report. Most interests came into the period in need of cattle for immediate requirements, but there was little encouragement from the carcass trade until midweek when prices trended sharply upward. The overall finish of the steer and heifer supply was attractive, with a liberal percentage choice and a moderate volume choice and prime; however, many consignments were mixed 3- 4 yield grade and the number of yield grade 4 animals in the lot was often a major price determining factor. Slaughter steers made up approximately 32 per cent and heifers 34 per cent. Cows comprised 9 per cent and feeders 21 per cent.
