Pilgrim-that’s what.
I’m thankful that I’m a
wife, mother and
homemaker here in America
in 1978, in spite of some
monumental problems that
threaten our society

I’m thankful not to have to
stoke the stove, chop and
carry wood, split kindling,
and suffer daily from minor
smoke and soot inhalation
And, finally. I’m thankful
for abundant feast fixin’s
that I don’t have to chase,
catch, kill, clean, plant,
weed, dig, store - or even
peel or stuff - unless I per
sonally choose to do so.
Preparing from scratch is
still my preferred way to fix
most of our family’s
favorites, like the bird, the
stuffing, the mashed
potatoes and the pumpkin
pie But I have the choice, if I
wish, to instead buy, open,
thaw and microwave - or
even eat out
We truly do take for
granted our American food
supply, of greater variety
and cheaper than anywhere
else on earth, that has
remained constant and
abundant. Its efficient
production has freed our
citizens to pursue a myriad
of careers and luxuries,
while they are sustained by a
relative handful of dedicated
food and fiber growers.
I’m thankful to be an
American homemaker -
spoiled by the miracles of
modern technology that I
daily take for granted as
necessities that are my due

Pomona Grange No 40 met
foi their November session
at Red Lion Grange Hall,
with William Justh, master,
in charge of tne meeting
Mr and Mrs Richard
Gallimore, Biglerville
Grange, was appointed
general chairman and co
chairman to head the
planning committee
York-Adams Pomona
Grange, in regards to
National Grange 1979. The
plans are to include the
activities that the Pomona
will be responsible for when
National Grange meets in
Lancaster, November 1979.
New names suggested for
State Deputy Master to
serve York-Adams Pomona
for two years, were David
Scott, Valley Grange;
Marvin Miller, Biglerville
Grange; and William
Reichart, Gideon Grange.
The final selection will be
made by the Pennsylvania
State Grange Master J.
Luther Snyder.
Winners m the Pumpkin
Pie Baking Contest, under
the Women’s Activity
Committee were: First,
Beverly Stem, Red Lion
Grange; Second, Treva
Lease, Gideon Grange; and
Third, Mildred Hoffman,
Washington Grange. Judges
were Mrs. Abram Moyer and
Mrs. Harry Miller
Some important dates to
Grangers throughout the
Pomona are; Saturday,
December 9, the Youth and
Young Mameds will sponsor
a Square Dance at Gideon
Grange Hall, with the public
invited, beginning at 7 • 30.

HANOVER - The Annual
Women’s Activity Day was
held November 8, at Gideon
Grange Hall, Hanover, with
Treava Lease as program
chairman.
Margaret Weaner, Gideon
Granged opened the meeting
w ith a message and poetry.
Dorothy Reichart,
women’s activity chairman,
introduced Mrs. Elhe Nail,
co-owner of the “Rusty
Nail” Gift Shop of Fredrick
St., Hanover, who presented
an interesting program on
gift ideas. A “Show and
Tell” period followed.
All seven Subordinate
Granges were represented,
and served a covered dish
meal During the afternoon
session, Mr Ned Irish,

officers planning meeting
will be held Sunday, January
28, 1979, at Biglerville
Grange Hall, with
February 10th meeting held
at Biglerville, when Pomona
Grange covenes again.
Special speaker for the
afternoon session was Mrs.
Helen Caffrey, ad
ministrative assistant for
Senator Ralph Hess.
Following a covered dish
supper, served to about 50
persons, “The Happy Valley
Boys and Delores” en
tertained the members and
guests
Brodbecks, demonstrated
how he designed a flower
pattern, and transferred it
onto fabric suited for
needlepoint, to be made into
a large hall carpet Using
various shades of yam to
achieve the desired results,
he suggested it as therapy
for impatient people, and
person who may have to
spend hours away from
everyday work. He also
showed the group articles of
clothing he had knitted, and
some needlepoint and art
work he had done.
Women’s Activity Day
1979 will be held November
7, with Eureka Grange,
Dillsburg, as host, and
Kathryn Hill, Washington
Grange, as chairman.
