Chester County dairymen
gathered here on November
9 to honor 18 of their finest
colleagues wno have
averaged over 650 pounds of
butterfat this year Eight
topped 700 pounds Heading
the impressive list was
Jefferson D. Yoder of
Elverson, who has been
leading the pack for the past
several years
Yoder averaged 19,722
pounds of milk and 795
pounds of butterfat
Presently Yoder has a herd
of 50 cows, and farms 1200
acres with the help of his 23-
year old son, Carl, and one
full tune man. The Yoders
also have a herd of 40 Angus
brood cows - the foundation
of a cow-calf operation.
Following Yoder with an
average of 792 pounds of
butterfat was Jacob K.
Stoltzfus, Oxford. His herd
averaged 18,470 pounds of
milk. Melvin S. Stoltzfus,
Cochranville, averaged 780
pounds of fat and 19,041 of
milk. The fourth highest in
butterfat was George P
Lambom of Nottingham
Lambom was also the tops in
milk production with a
record of 20,077 pounds of
milk and 762 of fat.
Others over 700 pounds of
butterfat were John S
Stoltzfus, Atglen with 1C,836
pounds oi mill' and 747
nounds of butterfat, Robert
E Peppk Oxford, with
18.27 Q mill and "28 fat
Ardrossar. farms,
ViJJanova, with 17,075 milk

averaging 18,675 pounds

Hall, Guthriesville, with
humor, jokes and in
spiration Kehm told his
attentive audience that if
they wanted their herd,
family life, and community
to be better next year they
would have to make it better
“It won’t just happen by
itself,” he commented In
order to succeed, the pastor
said, three things are
needed
Fulton Grange holds meeting
Fulton Grange No. 66 held
their meeting, November 13,
at the Grange Hall in
Oakryn, when Com and Pie
Night was observed.
Mrs. Gerald Kreider,
Ceres, and Mrs. William
Taylor, Pomona, prepared
the program. Mrs. Kreider
was m charge of the com
contest and Darnel Tnmble
was the judge. Receiving
awards in the best ten ear
exhibit were; 1. Edward L.
Zug; 2. Clifford Holloway
Jr ; and 3. Mrs Clifford
Holloway Jr Best smgle ear

The Women’s Activities

Princess, also addressed the
large gathering of dairymen.
Carol explained the duties of
a dairy princess and their
importance to the industry,
emphasizing the need to
effectively compete in the
promotion of soft drinks
Earl Baum, DHIA
Fieldman, updated the
combining small grams
through the mid-western
states from Texas to North
Dakota and Montana. He
showed pictures of the
equipment they used. He
plans to run a combine again
in 1979 for the same custom
harvester.

meeting. He announced the

group that this is the first
year the average herd size
decreased in number for
quite sometime “The beef

good,” he remarked
