Dairy Shrine honors Md. duo
COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
Portraits of a Jersey cattle
breeder and an educator
both still living are the latest
addition to the dairymen’s
hall of fame maintained by
the Maryland Dairy Shrine
at the bull stud north of
Frederick.
The two honorees are John
T.G. Stiles of Silver Run and
Dr. Gordon M. Cairns of
Scaggsville. Stiles is a
veteran farmer and com
munity leader, while Dr.
Cairns retired on June 30
after 28 years as dean of the
College of Agriculture at the
University of Maryland in
College Park.
They were inducted during
the eighteenth annual bull
stud open house, held last
month in central Frederick
County. Their portraits
bring to 30 the number of
contemporary persons and
deceased pioneers whose
likenesses form a
prestigious gallery on
library and board room
walls in the bull stud office
building of the Maryland
Artificial Breeding
Cooperative.
