Dairy Shrine honors Md. duo COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Portraits of a Jersey cattle breeder and an educator both still living are the latest addition to the dairymen’s hall of fame maintained by the Maryland Dairy Shrine at the bull stud north of Frederick. The two honorees are John T.G. Stiles of Silver Run and Dr. Gordon M. Cairns of Scaggsville. Stiles is a veteran farmer and com munity leader, while Dr. Cairns retired on June 30 after 28 years as dean of the College of Agriculture at the University of Maryland in College Park. They were inducted during the eighteenth annual bull stud open house, held last month in central Frederick County. Their portraits bring to 30 the number of contemporary persons and deceased pioneers whose likenesses form a prestigious gallery on library and board room walls in the bull stud office building of the Maryland Artificial Breeding Cooperative. Also fred C. Downey of Williamsport in 1970 and his father, Simon L. Downey, in 1966. Both of the Downeys are now deceased. 31
