Gallagher, Extension animal scientist at The Pennsylvania .State University. Winners were determined by a committee consisting of Penn State College of Agriculture faculty and staff members. Robert, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Stein, Ims been a 4-H member for five years. He currently serves as president and news reporter of his 4-H home cliiti. v His 4-H horse project the past four years has been a 54%-inch mare pony. In each of these years, Robert qualified for the District 4-H Horse Show. “My main reason for wanting this Quarter Horse yearling is the desire to own and train a young horse. I am also outgrowing, my pony,” he points out. In 4-H work, Robert takes part in county horse judging team activities, local horse shows, and fuij,d raising campaigns. „As an extra project, he works with young members, teaching riding skills. He is a member of the Upper Buffalo Presbyterian Church where he sang in the choir. In school, Robert par ticipated in basketball and junior Olympic competition. He currently is an elected member of the Trinity High School Student Council. Joan is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Romesberg, and has been a 4-H member for four years. She currently serves as president of her dub. For her first project, she owned a Shetland Pony which she soon outgrew. Later she used her brother’s western pony, then pur chased a registered Quarter Horse gelding. Last Christmas she received a 10- year-old registered Quarter Horse. “This opportunity to win a HO Lancaster Farming, Saturday, October 21,1978 young Quarter Horse is very important to me because I’ve always had the desire to raise a foal and work with it,” she points out. “Since my mare is 10 years old, I will need a better horse in the near future.” In 4-H work, Joan is a member of the horse judging team and participated in the 4-H .poster contest and demonstration day. In ad dition to horse project work, she took indoor gardening anddothing. She encouraged numerous' boys and girls to join 4-H Clubs, and this past winter, helped to organize a program to involve club members in sewing riding outfits and other horse ar ticles. Joan is a member of the RDS, MANHEIM, PA. 17545 PH: 717-665-3525 DEPENDABLE 24 HOUR SERVICE United Church of Christ where she served as an acolyte for three years. In 1976, she received the Science Fair grand prize at the Rockwood Elementary School. She is a junior high school majorette and is a member of both the junior band chorus.
