88 — Lancaster Farming, Saturday, October 14,1978 Farm Women Societies Lancaster Co, Society 11 Quarryville Methodist Church was the September meeting place for members of Lancaster County Farm Women Society 11. I President Mary Swan conducted the meeting. Members voted to contribute to the Lancaster County traveling library. They will also be attending the fall bazaar on October 23-24. The Book Committee will have a meeting on October 9. A sewing session will be held at Quarryville Methodist Church hall on October 16. Lancaster Co, Society 23 Pauline Shenk hosted the September meeting of Lancaster County Farm Women Society 23. President Phoebe Burkholder con ducted the meeting. The Society completed their “Happiness for Others” project. Their project included taking meals to a person in need. Future activities for the project will include birthday and Christmas gifts to three children at Hamburg State School, sponsoring a Korean orphan and a program for the folks at Brereton Manor Nursing Home. The Society contributed articles to be sold at the LARC stand. They will be having a bazaar table and a display table at the “Christmas in October” meeting, October 23. The Society will par ticipate in the Town Fair in Lancaster city churches on October 31 and November 1. Marie Breneman will demonstrate homemade bread making and Eileen Thomas will demonstrate making egg cheeses. Assistants helpmg them will be Anna Mary Lefever, Ruth Kauffman and Mildred Charles. Donations by the Society were sent to a needy family, the Lancaster County bookmobile, and to the 4-H Horticultural Judging Team for traveling expenses. Pauline Shenk was elected the new secretary and Mary Funk was named treasurer to serve in 1979-1980. The next meeting will be November 7. Mrs. Jay Charles, Washington Boro R 1 will serve as hostess. A program of book reviews will be given by members. Lancaster Co, Society 26 DotUe Sipling hosted the September 28 meeting of Lancaster Farm Women Society 26. Joyce Bukowski served as co-hostess. Business for the evening was planning a food stand for the Manheim Fair on October 9-13. The next meeting will be a trip to Hershey with member’s husbands to see thelce Follies. York Co,: Society 16 York County Farm Women Society 16 held their September meeting at the Dover United Church of Christ. The Society en- tertained Society 30 with a covered dish supper. Twenty members and twenty guests attended. A skit was given by Dorothy Anders and Evelyn Sauer. The Society plans to operate a food stand foC the rabbit show at the York Fair grounds October 21 and 22. They also plan on attending the county convention which they will make favors for. The Society will attend Church Night on October 8 as well as the state convention, January 8-9. A donation was given to a needy family. The next meeting will be held at the home of Jean Hershey on October 25 at 7:30 p.m. Everyone is to wear a Halloween hat. York Co, Society 34 Williamsburg under glass and a discussion of the up coming bazaar will be featured at the October 18 meeting of York County Farm Women Society 34. The Society will make baked goods and homemade crafts for Bazaar Days at the York Mall. York Co, Society 35 Place mats and Halloween favors for a childrens home were made at the September meeting of the York County Farm Women Society 35. Janet Bncker served as hostess. The Society made plans for the craft bazaar on November 3 and 4 at the York Mall. All members will be making items at home. A committee will'be making projects as a group. The next meeting will be October 12 at the home,of Linda Bncker. PSU dairy team wins contest A Penn State Dairy Cattle Judging Team captured first place honors in a 25 team intercollegiate contest held at Memphis, Tennessee on Thursday, September 28. In addition to being High Team Overall, the Penn State team finistied Ist in Jersey judging, placed 3rd in both Holstein and Brown Swiss competition, and ranked 3rd m Oral Reason scores. Team members included Ernest B. Pyle, Malvern, Theodore G. Bean, Franklin and David W. Schuler, Fleetwood. Alternates for the team were Carl A. An derson, Spring Grove and Cynthia L. Shirey, Beavertown. Coaches for the Penn State team were Warren R. Poage and A. E. Branding Individually, Ernest B. Pyle was High Individual in the contest. He also earned 2nd place honors in Oral Reason scores and captured Ist place in Holstein judging. Team member Theodore G. Bean was 2nd high in- Hot Dogs, Barbecue, Apple Pie, etc....
