Outstanding 4-H Dairy
Member and was a gold
medalist at State 4-H
Achievement Days with her
safety demonstration.
“4-H has contributed
mostly to my strength of
character,” she says. “I
have learned to handle
added responsibility and
how to work effectively with
others.”
i Judy Long, who is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Maynard Long, Sr., is a 1978
high school graduate. She
has been a 4-H member the
past nine years.
A member of six Cum
berland County 4-H dubs,
she served as president, vice
-president, secretary,
treasurer, and teen leader.
She completed projects in
horse, beef, swine, clothing,
flowers, teen leadership,
photography, and forestry.
In Cumberland County,
Judy took part in the 4-H
horse show, swine roundup,
fun day, banquet, picnic,
county council, and judging.

LEBANON - Twelve
members of the Cedar Crest
FFA recently attended an
FFA Leadership Training
Conference at Blue Moun
tain High School. The pur
pose of the event was to
familiarize FFA officers and
members with their duties
and responsibilities as
chapter leaders.
The group was greeted by
Mr. James Romberger,
Principal of Blue Mountain
High School. As part of the
prograjm, Sheryl A.
Bollinger, the state FFA
secretary, spoke to the group
about leadership. A
demonstration on proper
etiquette was presented by
Mrs. Ruth Hand, Schuylkill
County Home Economist.

After dinner, all members
retreated to an officer group
room where specific duties
of each FFA office were
described. The highlight of
the evening was the
Greenhand Quiz Contest
where first year FFA
members from Lebanon and
Schuylkill Counties com
peted. The contestants had
to orally answer difficult
questions dealing with the
history of the FFA. Com
peting from Cedar Crest
were Daryl Balmer, Jay
Martin and Mark Patches.
Patches tied for first while
Martin tied for third in a
field of twenty-one con
testants. Closing remarks
were given by Harvey
Smith, FFA Area Consultant
