Pennsylvanian victorious at
Flemington Fair pony pull
FLEMINGTON, N.J. -
Horse and pony pulling
contests were big features of
the Flemington Fair. There
were nine teams in the pony
contest. Weigh-in was im
portant in being certain that
a team of ponies was being
pitted against others of
similar size. There was a
1200 pound limit on the pony
teams, 3200 pounds on the
horses. All had to be weighed
in at Flemington Block and
Supply prior to the contest.
Charles Jennings,
Millerton, Pa., took first
place honors in the pony pull.
His Team, “Jeff” and
“Star,” pulled the dragsled
weighing 4430 pounds the full
required distance of 10 feet.

Bros., Lebanon. They pulled
the 4430 pounds a distance of
5 feet 10% inches. Third was
another team owned by

Placements of broiler chicks
in the commonwealth during
the week ending September 3
were 29 per cent more than
the corresponding week a
year ago, according to the
Pennsylvania Crop
Reporting Service.
The placements were
2,062,000, about the same as
the previous week. Average,
placements during the past
nine weeks were 20 per cent
above a year earlier.

the full 16 feet.
Second place went to
”Gyp” and “Dick,” a team
owned by Larue Austin,
Columbia Cross Roads, Pa.
They pulled the 8030 pound
loadlO’l”.
Search Dalyrmple,
Hampton, was third with
“Bill” and “Harry.” They
managed to pull the load
7T’. Fourth place went to
Alpaugh Bros., Lebanon;
fifth to Roger Hall, Delhi,
New York.

poultry producing states
were 68,896,000, about the
same as the previous week
but eight per cent more than
the same week a year ago.
Average placements in the
21 states during the past nine
weeks were eight per cent
above a year ago.
The number of broiler
fryers slaughtered under
federal inspection during the
week ending August 30, were
1,902,000 with an average
weight of 3.98 pounds.
Steve Trestle of Red Lion swept the York Fair’s
Spotted Hogs open class female division with this
champion sow.

In the barrow contest, the lightweight contest saw
Lazarus m first place and Bankert as runner-up. Among
mediumweights, Bankert won and Leese came in second.
In heavyweight competition, Bankert won and Lazarus
came in second.
STRAWBRIDGE WINS
OVER ALL BREEDS
John Strawbridge, who won dozens of ribbons and a
number of championships in individual breed contests,
had his barrows judged as the best of the entire show. The
reserve high honors were awarded to barrows owned by
Rodger Bankert.
