Omaha Cattle August 10,1978 Cattle - compared with previous week’s - close - Closing prices on slaughter steers were 50-75 cents lower and heifers were mostly 50 cents lower. Cow prices advanced 50-1.00 early and bulls were steady. Fleshy feeder steers were 50 cents lower largely in sympathy with lower fed cattle prices. Four day receipts 16,400 compared 13,600 previous week and 15,900 a year ago. The fed cattle trade followed much the same pattern as the previous week with live prices working downward in reflection of a continued bearish trade on carcass beef. Day-to-day declines were not severe, but the downward pressure was persistent as buyers sought to maintain an acceptable ratio between live prices and n - C. B. DUMONT CO. RD #3. One major buying interest returned to operations for the first time in nine weeks and one local independent reopened after a vacation closure.
