R 2 placed fourth. Jay used a
Allis Chalmers WD Tractor
with a Oliver plow with two
14 inch bottoms.
The Cumberland County
Plowing was held on the
farm of Lee Morrison,
Carlisle Rl, as part of the
Cumberland County Field
Day.
The Cumberland County
Ag Field Day was held at an
adjoining farm belonging to
Galen Byers, Carlisle. Area
farmers who attended had
an opportunity to watch
demonstrations of sod
seeding equipment and
inspect the chemical weed
control plot in com. Aenal
application of insecticide
and cover crop planting was
also highlighted at the field
day.
It was pointed out the
seeding of rye in standing
silage com by helicopter
now, may provide enough
pasture this Fall and next
Spring to pay for the entire
seeding.
In addition to the
pasturing potential, the rye
cover crop provides erosion
protection this winter as well
as a mulch for next year’s
com crop.
Arrangements for the
helicopter seeding are now
being made through the
Extension Service Office.
One can contact them if
interested in the aerial
seeding of rye.
