The Cumberland County Plowing was held on the farm of Lee Morrison, Carlisle Rl, as part of the Cumberland County Field Day. The Cumberland County Ag Field Day was held at an adjoining farm belonging to Galen Byers, Carlisle. Area farmers who attended had an opportunity to watch demonstrations of sod seeding equipment and inspect the chemical weed control plot in com. Aenal application of insecticide and cover crop planting was also highlighted at the field day. It was pointed out the seeding of rye in standing silage com by helicopter now, may provide enough pasture this Fall and next Spring to pay for the entire seeding. In addition to the pasturing potential, the rye cover crop provides erosion protection this winter as well as a mulch for next year’s com crop. Arrangements for the helicopter seeding are now being made through the Extension Service Office. One can contact them if interested in the aerial seeding of rye.
