Sylvia Mueller from St. Charles, HI., outbid top contender William Pettit and family from Huff ’n Puff Farm, Juliustown, N.J. for the right to take “Dee” -home. - “Dee” is classified VG (87) and has a 3 year old production record of over 30,000 pounds of milk in 346 days. She was consigned by John G. Gilliland from Gillbrook Farms, Warriors Mark. Held at Kutztown, the 1978 Sire Power Sale averaged $3339.44 on 71 cows and heifers - the highest ever in 'the eight year history of the Sire Power Sale sale. Forty-one head were sold by auctioneers A. Doty Remsburg and J. Austin Backus for $3,000 or more and averaged $4177. Buyers from coast to coast, attended the sale. Ameilo Curti, Curtmaid Farms, Waukepa, Calif., bought the second high selling Holstein, a bred heifer, “Tri-Day Foxy Lady”, from Tn-Day Farm, Damascus, Md., for $B2OO. “Lady” is sired by Arlinda Jet Stream and is due in September. Five Jet Stream daughters were sold for an average of $3430. Another Elevation daughter, “Y-Brookside Elevation Nelly”, was third high selling animal. The on-farm total includes the 665 million bushels of storage built by farmers since the beginning of 1977 under the farm storage facility loan program operated by USDA’s Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service.
