The Pennsylvania Buck and Doe Run Valley operation is part of a world-wide network of the King Ranch in Fonda, Texas, other parts of the U.S., Argentina, Brazil, Australia, Morocco, and Spain. Total holdings of the King Ranch exceed the acreages of many of the states in the U.S. “Anyone attending the Field Day could save a long drive to Texas, since a lot of Texas is in Chester County,” notes Burdette. “The main objec tives of the King Ranch pro gram are to use a cow herd to utilize grass, produce feeder cattle and Santa Ger trudis purebred bulls for sale.” The King Ranch program has changed in the last 10 years from a steergrass operation to a breeding herd. In prior years they imported steers from Texas to be run on grass and then to be finished m the feedlot for slaughter in the east.
