The existing crop disaster program, under the 1977 Agricultural Act, ex pires in late 1979 and a new program will have to be ready when fall-seeded 1980 crops are planted. Bergland told a Senate Agriculture subcommittee recently that if enactment is delayed much beyond July 1 it might be necessary to extend the current disaster programs for one more crop year.
