They should be stored in the original containers in order to keep identity. Also, keep them away from pets, children, and livestock. Crabgrass control con tinues to be very difficult in many lawn and turf areas. This is a very aggressive weed that takes over during late summer and fall; in the spring the plants are dead and the area needs re seeding or re-soddmg. Crabgrass plants grow from seeds each summer; the best control method is to treat the area with a pre-emergence crabgrass control weed killer; this can be bought mixed with fertilizer, or used as a spray. The time of application is mid to late April when the forsythia blossoms are falling to the ground. Several applications may be needed over a period of years in order to get good control. Next summer every effort should be made to keep the plants from going to seed. As long as new seeds are allowed to develop and blow over the area, control will be more difficult. Act now to control crabgrass later this summer.
