18—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, April 22,1978 Lebanon Count FFA officers hold procedures drill FREDERICKSBURG - Chapter FFA officers from Lebanon County schools drilled through parliamentary procedures Thursday afternoon, with each team striving to come out best in the judges’ opinion. When all the motions were made and the seconded and the mock meetings adjourned, it was die team from Annville- Cleona High School that received the highest nod of approval. Coached by Lowell Morton, the Annville-Cleona team of officers provided the judges with the smoothest proceedings. Team mem bers are Reid Hoover, president; Ellis Meyer, vice president; Joe Harvatine, treasurer; Jeff Landis, secretary; Alan Graves, reporter; Alan Hostetler, sentinel; Darryl Landis, chaplain; and Bryan Burkholder, student advisor. Second best, according to the judges was a team of officers from Northern Lebanon High School, with president Cory Bender in charge. Completing the slate Congressional spending scorned Norman Aamodt COATESVILLE - At a regional Pennsylvania Farmers’ Association policy meeting in Chester County, Norman Aamodt charged “Robert Walker’s an nouncement that he returned $55,000 of his budget to the federal government was a blatant political deceit” He charged that “Walker did not return $55,000; he simply did not use it. The $253,400 he did spend resulted in no legislation which would improve agriculture, improve the economy or effectively address inflation or the energy shortage. Rather, an additional $250,000 of tax papers money was spent on public relations, mailings, etc., which provided no significant responses to constituents problems; it was used for publicity to aid him in his re-election ef fort.” are Mike Brajkovich, vice president; Tom Oonmoyer, treasurer; Randy Behney, sentinel; Earnie Meily, chaplain; Tom Seaman, reporter; Greg Dunbar, secretary; and Paul Gibble, student advisor. Their coach is Raymond Bickel. A team from Eastern Lebanon County High School placed third. Coached by Gerald Strickler, the slate of officers consisted of Vince Arnold, president; Bill Hoffman, vice president; Sue Ritchie, treasurer; Sue Heilinger, secretary; Ken Arnold, reporter; John Kline, student advisor; Glenn Wenger, chaplain; and Brett Eberly, sentinel. Placing fourth was Cedar Crest’s parliamentary procedures team, coached by Jay Lentz. The officers are: Dean Moyer, president; Ronald Brubaker, vice president; Mike Balsbaugh, chaplain; Gary Mase, sentinel; Roy Shirk, treasurer; Dawn Shirk, secretary; Jed Hoffer, student advisor; and Paul Miller, reporter. Aamodt went on to state that the family farm can be saved “by doing two things - by increasing the inheritance tax deduction level to an amount where, when the parents die, the surviving family can take the farm over without excessive debt burden; and by improving the existing markets for farm products and developing new ones. “The inheritance tax revision would have wide support in the Congress because it would apply to family businesses and homes across the nation. Markets for farm products can be improved by first attacking the false notion regarding the adverse ef fects of eggs and dairy products on health and by developing an entirely new market for grains as fuel made from grain derived alcohol, as was demon strated successfully in Nebraska last year.” ‘let us never forget that the cultivation of the earth is the most important labor*of man. jr prov. inning parliamentary procedures team Thursdi fhen Lebanon County FFA teams competed foi lie honor.
