Cows were 1.00-2.00 higher and bulls sold firm to 1.00 higher. Four day receipts 12,400 as compared 18,000 previous week and 18,400 a year ago. Fed cattle prices again advanced sharply on modest marketings as continuing rains hampered livestock movement. Most buying interests were in need of cattle for immediate requirements, but were still somewhat on the cautious side in view of the poor ratio between live costs and carcass realizations. Late supplies were not sufficient to reflect the bearish con ditions which developed at the wholesale carcass level. Most producers were reported quite current in marketings, and the latest ‘Cattle on Feed’ report was not considered bearish for the close-up supply situation. Slaughter steers made up approximately 41 per cent and heifers 41 per cent; several loads choice and prime were included, but much of the supply was good to average-choice. Cows made up 9 per cent and feeders 8 per cent. STEERS: At midweek, lead choice and prime 34 1257 lbs. 55.50, highest locally since early July 1975.
