HARRISBURG - Almost
3000 contestants from all
parts of the state are ex
pected to enter garments in
sewing contest rules given
the Pennsylvania State
Grange’s 20th annual sewing
contest which got underway
February 1.

Hoover, director of women’s
activities for the State
Grange. The competition is
open to Grange members,
and non-members who are
sponsored by Grangers,
Mrs. Hoover added.
The contest closes April 30
when , judging at the local, or
subordinate Grange level
begins. This will be followed
by countywide and then state
judging. State winners will
then be judged in the
National Grange com
petition.
The five classes in this
year’s contest are:
Class A, women’s gar
ments - Any type garment
made for a female 18 years
of age or older for self or
another person.
Class B, boys, girls and
teen garments - any type
garment made by a con
testant 10 to 17 years old for
self or another person of the
same age group.
Class C, children’s clothes
- any type garment made for
someone else 10 years of age
and under.
Class D, teen clothes - any
type garment made by a
contestant 18 years of age or
older for someone else
between the ages of 11 and 17
years.

at Lancaster County’s Dairy
Day. The event is scheduled
to take place this coming
Tuesday at the Farm and
Home Center. Philpot, who
will begin his talk at 10 a.m.,
is on the staff of Lousiana
State University, where he
serves as director of the
Mastitis ~ Research
Laboratory.
Philpot, an alumnus of
Oklahoma State University,
where he received his B.S„
M.S., and Ph. D. degrees,
has authored more than 130
popular and technical ar
ticles on many facets of
mastitis control. In addition,
he writes the “Better Udder
Health” column for Hoard’s
Diaryman magazine.
