Alpha Zeta’s chairman for
the dance marathon, Ernest
Pyle, explains the purpose of
the event and its need for
support:
“The Four Diamonds
Fund’s purpose is to provide
relief from ‘ extraordinary'
financial burdens for v the
families of children with
cancer, including leukemia.
“It costs an average of
$5,000 per year to cover all
outpatient expenses of each
child with leukemia and
thousands more for each
month of in-hospital care.
Few can bear the burden
alone. Certainly the finan-

required and the product is setting on a warm shelf, one
should not be surprised if upon its use the animals show no
response. Buying these products is a risky business, but
then it’s your money and your animals, and you are en
titled to care for them any way you wish. But using drugs
which may have no more effectiveness than water does
not make sense. If these drugs are not on display undeE
refrigeration ask the seller how long they have been in the
warm. If only for a few days there may not be any
problem.
Boluses should be kept in dry areas. Most boluses will
deteriorate if stored in areas where they can accumulate
moisture.
Needles and syringes should be as clean as possible. It is
impossible to sterilize an animal’s skin without extensive
preparation, but just because a sterile injection site is
impractical does not mean one should not be as clean as
possible. More problems can be created with dirty in
jections than solved. Most treatments of ones own animals
can be enhanced by just simple rules. Read and follow
label directions, be sure the drugs have been properly
handled, do a clean job of administering, and most im
portant, if not sure or in doubt, consult your veterinarian.
He is the one best trained and qualified to provide animal
medical drugs and services.
