Owners of the other damaged property, Ralph Myer & Sons, Airy Hill Road, Manheim R 5, are going to use a crane to try to lift the roof over the chicken house, but are uncertain if this will succeed. The damage at the Farrington riding arena was discovered after lunch time last Sunday. Mrs. Farrington said the family had been working in the arena that morning, and speculates the collapse must have occurred about noon. She said that neighbors and members of the Brickerville Fire Company helped shovel snow off the roof for about three hours that day. The roof went down about four feet, pushing back a wall of the arena in the section where it joins the bam, Mrs. Farrington said. At the Ralph Myer chicken farm at Elm, the roof over a 57,000 bird chicken house collapsed and came to rest on the top tier of one of the decks of cages, caught there by wooded trusses that broke. An uneven snow load on the roof appears to be the cause of the collapse, Myer’s son said.
