Saturday, January 21,1978 Pa. Angus Queen is determined cattlewoman HARRISBURG - Sarah Fretz, the newly chosen Pennsylvania Angus Queen for 1978, is no ordinary young woman of 15. Dressed in her stockman’s clothes with her long, fine brown hair tum bling out from under her cattleman’s hat, she seemed to gain a decade of years in maturity and insight as she explained her goals for the future during Farm Show festivities last week. “I plan to attend Penn State University for pre veterinary science,” stated the teenage daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Fretz, Pocket Valley Farm, Zionsville Rl, with conviction. When asked if this goal precludes owning her own farm, the slight, but determined young woman declared, “Oh, no. I definitely plan to own my own farm, as well. She also raises sheep and swine. A nearly self-sufficient cattlewoman, Miss Fretz helps her father and maintains her own herd at the same time. Her hay and bedding supplies are reimbursement for work on the farm in the Summer. Always involved in the outdoor activities rather than the household chores of the farm, Miss Fretz has been active in 4-H for six years, starting at the age of nine. She is now a member of the Lehigh County 4-H Baby Beef Club, the Lehigh County 4-H Swine Club, and the Lehigh County 4-H Sheep ORGANIC PLANT FOOD CO. - N Sarah Fretz and Lamb Club. A member of the Pennsylvania Eastern Junior Angus Association, she is currently the secretary-treasurer. As part of her cattle program, Miss Fretz has sent an Angus bull calf to the Penn State bull test station where in 1975 the animal tested out as the highest bull of Angus that year.
