By JERRY WEBB University of Delaware NEWARK, Del. - A record harvest is under way throughout the nation - wheat, com and soybeans are expected to reach new highs That’s good news for consumers throughout the world if they know it’s happening. Most people in American, however, don’t know any more about the harvest than what they read in the paper. Headline stories tell of harvest estimates and grain deals and rising food prices. But the man on the street hasn’t seen or noticed the harvest even though it’s going on all around him. He doesn’t see his automobile or television set being built either, but somehow that’s a little different. But our food supply is different. Virtually all of it is produced in America and it’s done out in the open for all to see. A consumer who’s the least bit curious can see meat, milk and eggs, vegetables and field crops in the various stages of production. There’s no reason for kids to grow up not knowing where milk comes from or what a corn plant looks like. Right now, fanners are in the midst of harvesting com and soybeans - an ideal time for the city dweller or suburbanite to head down some country road and watch it happen. president, presented a check to the club for a third prize exhibit at York Fair. Next meeting of the club will be a hayride at the farm of Rodney Eisenhart on October 15 at 7:30 p.m. Blue forms for club awards will be due at this meeting.
