The contests in question were held at fairs in the county last month. Hemphills to entertain The Singing Hemphills, a gospel singing group from Nashville, Tenn., will be coming to the Cornerstone Supper Club at the Plain and Fancy Farm Restaurant, Route 340 near Intercourse, Pa. FFA students from each of Lancaster County’s schools which offer the vo-ag program were represented in the competition. They competed on both an in dividual and team basis. Taking the team title for the sixth year in a row, were students from the Cloister FFA Chapter, Ephrata. They won in divisions for freshmen, as well as up perclassmen. In the senior category, Ephrata’s 55 competing vo-ag students averaged 467.48 points for first place. The tally for the junior contest was an average of 575.3 points for 34 competing students. Rounding out the list of Ephrata wins title for sixth time placings for school averages among upperclassmen were New Holland, 450.41 points on 58 students; Solanco, 445.77 points on 60 students; and Penn Manor, 436.2 points on 65 students. Further placings included, in order: M-anheim, Warwick, Lampeter-Strasburg, and Pequea Valley. On the roster of school averages for freshmen, Ephrata was trailed, in order, by New Holland with 569.4 points on 98 students; and Penn Manor with 565.6 points on 55 students.
