S.E. Central Pa. consumers
HARRISBURG - A six
month survey of food basket
prices conducted by the
Pennsylvania Department of
Agriculture reveals that
southeast central consumers
have paid the lowest average
price for food in the state.
Kent Shelhamer, Penn
sylvania secretary of
agriculture, said that the
survey indicated costs for
the average “food basket” in
Adams, Berks, Dauphin,
Lancaster and Lebanon
Counties averaged $10.50
from March to August.

A clown will be giving out
balloons to the children. At 1
p.m. there will be a magic
show by Ira Fickes, plus
games for all ages, the moon
walk, and pony rides.
Preceptor Kappa Chapter
will be selling hand made
craft items plus chiken corn
soup, barbeque, hot dogs,
and drinks which will be on
sale all day
The United Cerebral
Palsey Chapter will have a
flea market with all kinds of
items for sale and a bake
goods table Anyone willing
to donate items foi the flea
marker oi baked goods

basket cost dropped 10 cents
in August to a figure of
$10.73.
Over the six-month period,
the southeast central food
basket average rose 65 cents
or 6.4 per cent in the region,
Shelhamer said.
The survey, conducted by
the Department’s Bureau of
Rural Affairs, compared the

basket items in both rural
and urban stores from
