Central Pa. consumers HARRISBURG - A six month survey of food basket prices conducted by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture reveals that southeast central consumers have paid the lowest average price for food in the state. Kent Shelhamer, Penn sylvania secretary of agriculture, said that the survey indicated costs for the average “food basket” in Adams, Berks, Dauphin, Lancaster and Lebanon Counties averaged $10.50 from March to August. However, the food basket cost dropped 10 cents in August to a figure of $10.73. Over the six-month period, the southeast central food basket average rose 65 cents or 6.4 per cent in the region, Shelhamer said.
