LANCASTER - The
District VI 4-H Horse Show
was held September 17 at the
Lancaster Riding Club with
riders from the eight
counties of Adams, Cum
berland, Dauphin, Franklin,
Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry,
and York participating. The
English judge was Mrs. Judy
Newvine, Jersey Shore, Pa.;
Western judge was Mrs.
Kathy Whitehill, Pleasant
Gap, Pa.; and trail judge
was Robert Mowrey,
University Park, Pa.
Mummert top FFA’er

Mummert showed his
dairy heifers and exhibited
in the tomatoes, beans and

the FFA oats category won a
second place; and a three

Over 200 4-H’ers competed
in the 29 classes shown
throughout the day. Prizes
were awarded to the top six
placings of each class, with
the awards being spread
throughout the different
counties, and no one county
dominating the show. Top
placing winners in each
class will go on to compete in
the State 4-H Horse Show,
usually the top two or three
riders, depending on the
state quota for that class.
In the grooming and
showmanship classes, Ricky
display also captured a red
ribbon in the school exhibits.
Selection of this year’s
winner was made from a
field of six FFA members
representing several county
chapters. The award is
judged on the fair par
ticipation, leadership,
scholarship, project

County 4-H’er from Denver,
Pa. top honors in the junior
division. The 13 year old
youth is a member of the
Broken Bit 4-H club. He also
placed second in the Stock
Seat Equitation Jr. Division
and the Western Pleasure
Horses Class.
In the Senior Division, first
prize was awarded to Lori
Jones, a member of the
Cumberland County 4-H
Horse and Pony Club. The
nineteen year old 4-H’er
showed her horse, Positively
program, FFA activities and
a personal interview.
Judging for the com
petition was done by Dr.
Robert Deck of the Lincoln
Intermediate Unit, Ed
Heindel of the York Office of
Production Credit
Association, and Leo Rutter
who represented the York
Fair management.
Seattle Slew,
undefeated winner
of racing’s Triple Crown,
had Agway horse feed
as his training ration
during the critical
yearling period.
Pete to also win the Sr. Stock
Seat Equitation, and place
fourth in the Western
Pleasure Horses Class.
