Mellinger LANCASTER - Ernest H. Mellinger, R 2, Quarryville has been named recipient of the Hall of Fame award by Hoffman Seeds, Inc. The presentation by the Lan disville seed company was made at Sherwood Knoll Dining Room recently, during the firm’s annual sales conference. Mellinger is a Lancaster County sales representative for Hoffman. The presentation was made by Robert W. Adams, Hoffman District manager, for“outstanding con tributions in sales and service” during the past year. Of the more than 500 company seed men in 13 states, only 31 have met the qualifications to receive this coveted award. Martin, Ephrata R 2, swept the tractor driving contests at the Ephrata Fair on Tuesday evening. Martin tractor driving chump EPHRATA - For the second time in two years, Earl G. Martin, Ephrata R 2, walked away with two trophies in the adult tractor driving contest held at the Ephrata Fair. This year the 34-year-old Ephrata R 2 farmer racked up only 55 points to win the standard tractor driving contest. He also took the championship title in the two-hitch backing contest revitalizing a win ning streak he had going for two years then lost last year. This year eight contestants competed. Runner-up to Martin in both events was Harvey Sauder, New Holland Rl, a former county and state plowing champion. In the tractor driving contest, Thomas Zartman, Ephrata Rl, was third, and Clark Stauffer, also Ephrata Rl, fourth.
