—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, August 20, 1977 134 Novice women tractor drivers can learn at Ag Progress Days UNIVERSITY PARK - Safety on the farm, around the home, and in the garden will be a feature of Ag Progress Days at the Rock Springs Agricultural Research Center, located nine miles west of State College on Route 45, August 23, 24, and 25. There will be several events of mterest to all ages, says Dennis J. Murphy, Extension farm management specialist at Penn State. At 10 a.m. August 23, a lawn-garden tractor rodeo will be held for children. Parents will be encouraged to accompany children as they learn. This is not a contest for prizes, but em phasizes safe operation. Beginning at 1 p.m. the same day, safe tractor driving for women will be emphasized. Safe mounting, operation, backing, turning, and pre-operational checks will be demonstrated. This is not a contest, but voluntary participation will be en couraged. Murphy says that the reason for this part of the program is many women are called upon to operate tractors in an emergency situation, or only a couple of times each year. Ii is hoped that they can become more aware of how husbands and sons should be operating tractors. Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., the 4-H Safe Poultry and Livestock Systems eggB 0 Advanced Air-Systems Featuring The Automatic Air Inlet Controlled Feeder System for Breeder Pullets and Hens Agri RD4EPHRATA, PA 17522 (FARMERSVILLE) ?’ a^l^ Ving Contes t t r U children and women is be held.
