—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, August 13, 1977 90 Many repeat as winners at colored breed shows LEBANON - Lebanon County’s 4-H’ers entered 28 colored dairy animals at this year’s Lebanon Area Fair, with Jerseys, Guernseys, Brown Swiss and Ayrshires represented. In the FFA show, these same four breeds were represnted by 10 animals. Kevin Reinhold, 18, had the grand champion Ayrshire in the FFA Dairy Show at the Lebanon Fair. Eugene Hoffman shows the champion FFA Jerseys belonging to his brother, William. Lebanon Area Fair contests went to youngsters who have made a tradition of winning here. In the 4-H Ayrshire show, for example, it was the Maulfairs who cleaned up. Gary Mase excelled with his Brown Swiss in both the FFA and 4- H contests. In the 4-H Guernsey show it was Dale Smith who led the way, while Ken and Pat Arnold, sons of Mr. and Mrs. John Arnold, Schaefferstown, showed the champion Guernseys in FFA competition at the Lebanon Fair, brothers Ken and Pat Arnold went undefeated in the FFA contest. Sue Bomberger’s Jersey’s stood first in their part of the 4-H program. Following' are details of the 4-H show, which is im mediately followed by results of the FFA ring. Two sisters, Diane and Brenda Maulfair, shared all the honors in the Ayrshire show. Brenda showed the junior as well as the reserve senior and reserve grand animal Diane beat her on both counts in contests in volving senior animals. She showed a 5% year old daughter of Oak Ridge Flashy Klondike to the top spot. Diane, 16, and Brenda, 18, are the daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Maulfair, Jonestown. Close as they came to winning all the honors in the Ayrshire ring, some first places did elude them. Randall Weaver of Fredericksburg had the top junior calf, and Elaine Maulfair, a third sister, showed the best junior yearling. A 4-year-old cow owned by Blaine Maulfair stood at the top of her class. Gary Mase and Frank -Hoffman shared the high honors in the Brown Swiss contest, with Mase repeating from last year as owner of the grand champion. His winner for the past four years is a daughter of Rolling Meadows Alaric who has a record of more than 20,000 pounds of milk with a 3.8 test in 365 days. Mase, 15, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Mase of Lebanon. Hoffman’s winning entry was a 2-year old daughter of EE Lilason Joe. He took reserve senior and reserve grand ribbons with her. Bruce Heilinger of Newmanstown showed his junior calf to the first place spot. A triple victory was scored by Dale Smith of AnnviUe when he took a couple of Guernseys to grand champion, senior champion, and reserve senior champion honors. He missed the reserve grand ribbon when Dennis H- ?kman of Newmanstow; captured that spot with his junior cham pion. Smith’s champion cow is a 4-year old daughter of Walcome Flashs HaUirex. In the junior show, Tom Smith picked up the reserve champion ribbon. Sue Bomberger made a clean sweep of things in the Jersey show, winning every class and every cham pionship. She is the 16-year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Bomberger of Ann ville. FFA RESULTS A 2-year old daughter of Fair Weather Superb Lad stood first in the Jersey show, winning both senior and grand champion honors. She is owned by Bill Hoffman of Newmanstown. Another of his cows, a 4-year old, took the reserve honors on both counts. The junior champion of the contest was exhibited by Marilyn Deaven of Fredericksburg, while a junior calf owned by Randy Beheny of Myerstown was chosen as reserve junior champion.
