Kutztown Fair to honor farm family KUTZTOWN, Pa. - A -Berks County farm family will be honored on Tuesday, August 16, at the 1977 Kutz town Fair. The Fair Association, in co-operation with the Pomona Grange will choose the Outstanding Grange Farm Family in Berks County on that day. The outstanding FFA boy, FHA girl, 4-H boy and 4-H girl will also be honored. An award of $5OO will be given to the winning farm family, while $lOO awards will go the the FFA, FHA and 4rH winners. This is the first tune that the Kutztown Fair has so honored a Berks County grange farm family ac cording to John Schaeffer, chairman of the committee sponsoring the event. But, according to Schaeffer, the Fair Association plans to continue this award from now on. The awards will be presented on the Kutztown Fair stage on Tuesday, August 16, between the 7 and 9 p.m. shows. The Kutztown Fair will start on Monday, August 15 and will run through S,. Hampshlres Tom and Dan Miller took all placings in the 4-H Hampshire breeding show with Tom garnering the champion ram, ewe lamb, ram lamb, ram yearling, pair of lambs, ewe yearling, champion and reserve champion ewe. Steve Ebersole, however, showed his animals to the champion and reserve champion title in the open ram competition. Tom Muller was back on top with champion ewe, however. Ebersole took the reserve champion in the ewe competition. Southdown In 4-H competition, Michele Bankert and Sarah Lau shared the champion honors. Mbs Lau took reserve champion honors in the breed. Suffolks In Suffolk competition three 4-H’ers aimed for the highest honors. In 4-H competition Troy Ness took the champion ewe, and champion ram titles. The reserve champion berth went to Charla Janney. Ness also earned the ram lamb first placing, and the ewe yearling number one berth. Miss Janney showed the first place ram yearling, the first place ewe lambs, and the number one pair of lambs. Susan Janney took second place ram lamb. In open competition Miss Janney took the champion ram and the reserve champion ewe while Ness took the cham pion ewe and the reserve champion ram.
