—Lancaster Farmim 102 Goshen sheep show winners picked By KENDACE BORRY JOANNE SPARE WEST CHESTER, Pa. - The sheep competition at the Goshen Country Fair, held August 1 through August 6 near West Chester, Pa., was divided into three days of contests. Beginning on August 3, 4-H fitting and showmanship classes plus the three open classes of Cheviots, Dorsets, and Hampshires took place. CHEVIOTS Two Cheviot breeders - John Arrell from Circle A lust 13. 1977 Saturday. Aui Farm, Lincoln University Rl, and Delaware Valley College, Doylestown - battled it out for all honors in Wednesday evening's competition. The grand championship titles were split with John Arrell taking the champion ram with his yearling, and Delaware Valley College taking reserve champion with its yearling ram. In the champion ewe class, however, Delaware Valley College made a clean sweep of the honors with both champion and reserve champion animals - both of which were lambs. All told, Delaware Valley College had eight first placings in the 10 classes, taking top honors in ram lamb, pair of ram lambs, ewe, ewe lamb, pair of ewe lambs, pen of lambs, breeder’s young flock, and flock. Arrell took first placings in the ram and get of sire classes. DORSETS Dorset competion was dominated by one group - the Baroni family of Downingtown, Pa. Ann, Jeff, Chris, and Craig Baroni made a clean sweep of all first placings in the eight classes, taking the four champions, as well. Michele Stone of Pottstown had a second place animal in ewe lamb under one year, and Kathleen Baroni showed yearling ewes to third and fourth placings. HAMPSHUtES The Baroni family was also strong in Hampshire competition, but most of the first place honors were divided equally between two other exhibitors, as well. Strawberry Hill Hamp sbires, David Lytle owner, New London, Pa., and Delaware Valley College, Doylestown, also ranked high in competition. The champion Hampshire ran was owned by the Baroni family as was the reserve champion ram. Both champion animals were ram lambs. Maria Peters, on the right, took highest honors with ewes. The champion ewe was a lamb and the reserve was a yearling. Lytle was also premier breeder. Delware Valley College showed strength in the pair of ewe lambs, pen of lambs, breeder’s flock, and get of sire classes. All these were first placings for the college.
