Producers voted by mail on the quota proposal on February 22-25. Of the 798 fanners who voted, 694 cast negative votes. Since growers disapproved the USDA quota system, there will be unlimited production and no USDA price support for the three crops years 1977-79. Pennsylvania growers have never ap proved a quota system. Big Blue by Steiger TROY, Mich. - Ford Tractor Operations has an nounced plans to enter the large four-wheel-drive farm tractor market in mid-year 1977. Ford, through its North American dealers, will market a new line of four models initially, and later a total of five models ranging from 210 to 450 horsepower. The new tractors will be produced for Ford by Steiger Tractor, Inc., under a supply agreement. Producers of this tobacco are primarily located in Maryland. However, there are producers in Kentucky, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. Burley tobacco growers overwhelmingly approved marketing quotas and a price support program for the 1977-79 crops. Since 1944, growers of Bruley tobacco have approved the quota system with a 93 to 99 per cent yes vote. Producers of Virginia sun-cured tobacco also approved the quota system by a yes vote of 95.8 per cent. and 17 light industrial tractors, as well as four wheel-drive loaders for the construction market. Steiger, founded in .1958 and based in Fargo, N.D., is a leading producer of large, high-performance, four wheel-drive articulated tractors. Incorporated in 1969, it markets tractors under the Steiger name through an independent dealer organization in the United States and abroad, and also produces tractors for other companies. Its products are used primarily for agricultural purposes, but also have industrial applications. The Kentucky group also will raffle a purebred bull and heifer at noon on Friday prior to the afternoon sale. Winners may designate whether or not the animals are to be sold during the auction.
