Feb. 19,1977 Now is Continued from Page 10] This grass appears like sorghum and will grow six to eight feet high and crowd out most other crops. We urge that farmers with this problem get on the planning table and figure out the practices to be done this summer for control. The use of Eradicane worked into the soil before planting, the growing of a crop, and the possible use of Roundup later in the summer is suggested. We urge far mers to become acquainted with the suggested control methods and get ready to eliminate this serious weed. No doubt it has been frozen since Christmas time. However, if it is to be moved into the upright silo for mechanical feeding, we suggest that it be done soon before warm weather arrives. There is no need to add anything to this silage but it should be moved during cool weather and as rapidly as possible. In warm weather it has more of a chance to heat and result in lower quality silage. Also, rodents may be in the temporary storage and this silage will keep better in the upright silo during the Spring and Summer months. If the silage is to remain in the temporary storage, the sealing cover or material should be kept down tight against the silage surface at alltimes.
