Smoked Pork Omaha February 17,1977 Weekly Cattle 51— Compared with the previous week’s close—closing prices on Slaughter Steers were weak to 25 lower. Heifers closed fully steady. Cows were 1.00-1.50 higher, and Bulls firm to 1.00 higher. Four day receipts 13,400 as compared 14,300 previous week and 14,800 a year ago. The fed cattle trade followed a pattern much like the past several weeks. Prices were forced downward the fore part of week in reflection of a bearish carcass trade, and then most of the early downturn was regained on a midweek advance as carcass prices strengthened and supplies dwindled. Over the past several weeks, the trade has generally been lacking in any continued aggressiveness and at times on a hand-to-mouth basis. Despite the moderate day-to day price variations, the past five week period has registered a net change of only 25-50 upward. A large share of the Steer and Heifer supply for the period was of Good to Average-Choice grade. Steers made up ap proximately 40 of the week’s total and heifers 37. Cows comprised 13 and Feeders 6.
