ITALIAN CREME CAKE 1 stick margarine Vz cup shortening 2 cups sugar 5 egg yolks 1 teaspoon vanilla 2 cups flour 1 teaspoon soda Dash of salt 1 cup buttermilk 1 cup coconut 1 cup nuts (chopped) 5 egg whites, beaten stiffly Women’s Wednesday, Feb. 16 Lancaster Co. Add flour, soda, and salt mixture alternately with buttermilk. Stir in coconut and chopped nuts. Fold in last five egg whites, beaten stiffly. Pour into 2 (10 inch) or 3 (9 inch) pans. Bake at 350 degrees F. for 30 minutes. Frosting: 1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese Vz stick margarine 1 teaspoon vanilla 2-% cups confectioner’s sugar Beat above together until smooth. Age 13 XXX CARAMEL POPCORN 7 quarts popped com 1 cup margarine 2 cups brown sugar % cup white com syrup 1 teaspoon vanilla M> teaspoon soda Pinch of salt Combine sugar, butter, com syrup and salt in a pan. Bring to a boil for five minutes. Remove from heat. Stir in vanilla and soda. Pour over popped com. Age 15 XXX WASHDAY DINNER Vz stick of butter Onions Potatoes 2 tablespoons flour 1 teaspoon salt 1 quart tomato juice Sausage Melt stick of butter in a large flat pan. Put a generous layer of onions in pan. Put a very generous layer of thin sliced potatoes on top. Sprinkle two tablespoons of flour and one teaspoon of salt on top. Pour one quart of tomato juice over mixture. Cover with a thick layer of raw, thin sliced sausage. Bake at 375 degrees F. for 2-Vz to three hours. Anna Fox Ephrata, Pa. Add potatoes, water, and bouillon cubes. Stir until cubes dissolve; add seasonings; cover and simmer until potatoes are tender (12 to 15 minutes). Add milk and heat without boiling. AgeB XXX FAMOUS OATMEAL COOKIES 3 A cup shortening (softened) 1 cup firmly packed brown sugar Va cup granulated sugar 1 egg ’/« cup water 1 teaspoon vanilla 1 cup sifted all purpose flour 1 teaspoon soda 3 cups oatmeal, uncooked Mix above together. Makes five dozen. Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Bake 12 to 15 minutes. Mary Ann Hoover Ephrata, Pa. xxx PINEAPPLE FLUFF 1 pound marshmallows V? cup pineapple juice 1 pint whipped cream 1 cup crushed pineapple 20 graham crackers U cup margarine Melt marshmallows and J /2 cup pineapple juice in a double boiler. Cool until it starts to thicken. Add one pint whipped cream and one cup crushed pineapple. Finely roll 20 graham crackers. Add cup margarine and mix.
