1 34—Lancaster Farming, Saturday, Jan. S. 1977 FFA’ers receive Kirby Horst Kirby Horst Eastern Lebanon County High School Kirby Lynn Horst, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Irwin B. Horst of Newmanstown, Pa., has earned the Keystone Farmer Degree of 1977. A member of the Eastern Lebanon FFA Chapter, Horst is the current vice president of his local chapter. He also held the positions of reporter and president in his four years with the organization. On the county level, he has served as chaplain in previous years and this year was chosen vice president. Over the years he has participated in parliamentary procedure and dairy judging, and in July took part in the National FFA leadership training conference in Washington, D.C. Last year he received a gold medal in the state project book contest. Horst’s farming project consists of 17 registered Holstein cattle. He also raises alfalfa and com as, projects. The Keystone Farmer has shown his cattle at several local, district, and state shows over a period of the last seven years. In addition to Horst’s FFA activities, he’s also been a member of 4-H for seven years, director of the Lebanon-Dauphin County Junior Holstein Club, and a member of the Heidelberg Church of the Brethren where he sings in the youth mixed choir and is the youth fellowship vice president. After graduation, Horst plans to go into partnership with his father on the family’s 115 acre dairy farm. Robert Copenhaver Robert Copenhaver Cedar Crest High School ■ Robert Copenhaver, vice president of the Cedar Crest FFA Chapter, will be receiving his Keystone Farmer Degree on Wed nesday of the coming week. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse E. Copenhaver, Lebanon R 4. Prior to holding the office of vice president, Copenhaver was in the position of chaplain for his local group. At present, he is on the leadership and supervised farming committees. His farming projects are raising a dairy heifer, field com, and swine fattening. As part of a co-op program with Cedar Crest, Copenhaver works on his home farm for part of the day. A member of the Manheim Church of the Brethren, he is active in the youth group. His plans for the future are to be a dairy fanner. Scott Balsbaugh Scott Balsbaugh Cedar Crest High School Scott Balsbaugh, age 17, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Amos Balsbaugh, Jr., will be receiving his Keystone Farmer Degree on Wed nesday of Farm Show Week at Harrisburg. Balsbaugh lives on a 100 acre farm and is employed by San-Bo Dairy Farm. In the Cedar Crest Chapter of the FFA, he is serving as treasurer. Last year, Balsbaugh held the office of vice president of the group and as sentinel for the county. At nresent he is on the recreation committee and earnings and savings committee. His projects through the last four years have been conservation, horse records, swine fattening, and work experience in a restaurant. He has been chairman of the conservation committee in his organization for two years. He also began a tree project on Veterans’ Ad ministration land, which contains over 1000 trees.
