CASE 4-WHEEL
DRIVE TRACTOR
J I Case Company has
introduced the 2870 Traction
King, a new 4-wheel drive
tractor with manufacturer’s
ratings of 300 engine hp and
250 pto hp. With introduction
of the 2870, Case now offers
three 4-wheel drive models
designed to meet the
growing demand for high
horsepower tractors.
Power for the new tractor
is furnished by a tur
bocharged, 674 cubic inch,
six cylinder in-line diesel
engine. The four cycle power
plant has a 15.1 to 1
compression ratio. A
stratotube precleaner
removes 95 per cent of
foreign material from engine
intake air before it reaches
the primary and secondary
safety air filter elements.
Fuel passes through a three
stage filtering system and is
then injected into the engine
by a multi-plunger pump.
Twin fuel tanks have a
combined capacity of 150
gallons. Engine hood flips up
for easy servicing of the
power plant.
Standard equipment in
cludes a Case 12-speed range
power shift offering three on
the-go speed choices in each
of four ranges. Forward
speeds are from two to 14.67
mph, reverse from 3.37 to
14.67 mph. Standard torque
proportioning differentials
automatically transfer
power to working wheels
with the firmest footing.

pounds allows maximum use
of the 2870’s pulling power
and eliminates need for
hydraulic lift assist
mechanisms in working with
most of today’s high
production implements.
Standard tractor hydraulic
system includes two circuits
four outlets, with two ad
ditional hydraulic remote
cylinder circuits available as
options.- ASAE standardized
female couplers permit easy
connect-disconnect of
hydraulic hoses from either
the pump or implement side
of the hoses.
The Case four-way
selective steering system
allows the operator of a
choice of four steering
methods. In row-crop or
power take off work he can
steer with front wheels only;
on hillsides he can switch to
wheels one way to coun
teract side drift; at
headlands he can turn short
with coordinated steer; and
for easy implement hookup
he can steer with rear wheels
only. Turning radius in
coordinated steering is just
17% feet.
The tractor has row-crop
capabilities with adjustable
treads from 74 to 94 inches,
in two inch increments.
Standard equipment in the
