With introduction of the 2870, Case now offers three 4-wheel drive models designed to meet the growing demand for high horsepower tractors. Power for the new tractor is furnished by a tur bocharged, 674 cubic inch, six cylinder in-line diesel engine. The four cycle power plant has a 15.1 to 1 compression ratio. A stratotube precleaner removes 95 per cent of foreign material from engine intake air before it reaches the primary and secondary safety air filter elements. Fuel passes through a three stage filtering system and is then injected into the engine by a multi-plunger pump. Twin fuel tanks have a combined capacity of 150 gallons. Engine hood flips up for easy servicing of the power plant. Standard equipment in cludes a Case 12-speed range power shift offering three on the-go speed choices in each of four ranges. Forward speeds are from two to 14.67 mph, reverse from 3.37 to 14.67 mph. Standard torque proportioning differentials automatically transfer power to working wheels with the firmest footing.
