Corn crop excellent HARRISBURG - The U.S. com crop was rated fair to good as of August 1, but poor conditions reigned in some of the north central states, due to short supphes of soil moisture. Pennsylvania’s com crop is rated as ex cellent. Pennsylvania’s potato crop is in very good con dition. Digging of potatoes is now going on with good yields reported. Second cutting of alfalfa hay is now nearly complete, equal to last year. Third and fourth cuttings have been started. No work on the fourth cutting was done last year at this tune. The second cut of clover-timothy is about half complete. Quality is rated mostly good to fair. Pastures continue to supply an adequate amount of feed. Good growth «nd quality is reported. Fall plowing for 1977 harvest is underway and rated at nine percent done, mostly in southern counties. Last year sue per cent was done at this tune. Tomato picking for fresh markets is accelerating with high quality reported. Other vegetables are growing well and are reported in good condition.
