Junior Cooking Edition

Butter (size of a walnut)
% cup milk
2 cups flour
Vz teaspoon vanilla
Pinch of salt
Put about one pint cherries
(fresh blueberries are good)
or any kind of fruit desired,
in bottom of oblong cake pan.
Sprinkle about one
tablespoon flour over the
fruit and add a little water,
then drop the dough in by
spoonfuls. Bake at 375 F.
Serve warm with milk.

Whoopie Pies
4 cups sifted flour
2 cups granulated sugar
1 cup shortening (lard)
1 cup cocoa
1 cup sour milk
1 cup hot water
2 teaspoons salt
2 teaspoons soda
2 teaspoons vanilla
2 eggs, beaten
Cream shortening and
sugar, add eggs and beat.
Add sour milk and vanilla.
Then, sift flour, cocoa, and
salt, and add to mixture. Put
soda in hot water - add last.
Chill and drop on cookie
sheets. Bake at 400 F. Makes
45 cookies.
Filling:
4 tablespoons milk
2 cups 10X sugar
2 more cups 10X sugar
1 cup shortening
2 egg whites, beaten
2 tablespoons vanilla
4 tablespoons flour
Combine milk and two
cups 10X sugar. Cream
together shortening and
remaining 10X sugar. Add
beaten egg whites, vanilla,
and flour.

2 teaspoons baking powder
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon instant coffee
Vz teaspoon salt
3 A cup cocoa
Sift dry ingredients mto
large bowl, then add:'
2 eggs
V* lb. (Vs. cup) butter
1 cup cold water
Stir, then gradually add:
1 cup boiling water
Mix well. Bake in 350 F
oven for 30 minutes.

STROUDSBURG -
Miss Sherri Schnell, a
member of the West Penn
Faithful Workers, was
awarded a blue ribbon at the
Northeast Regional 4-H
Dress Revue held on July 29
at the Sheraton Inn,
Stroudsburg. Sherri, the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Alvin Schnell of New
Ringgold, received the
award for being one of the
four top junior winners in the
revue.
Junior semi-finalists in
cluded Jack Kauffman and
Kim Shealer, of the Auburn
Cheerful Workers and
Maureen Blum of the St.
Clair Eager Beavers. Senior
semi-finalists included were
Tamie Klinger, Weishample
Cloverettes, and Pam Leiby
of the Lewistown Valley 4-H
Club.
Participants were judged
on poise, grooming, and
selection of accessories as
well as sewing ability, ex-
