The number of milk cows in the Commonwealth during March was 709,000 head, up one per cent from a year earlier. Milk production per cow averaged 865 pounds in March, down ten pounds from the previous month. United States milk production during March totaled 10,250 million pounds, up two percent from a year earlier. U.S. milk production per cow averaged 926 pounds, 30 pounds more than a year ago and 37 pounds above March 1974.
