USDA to determine 1977 national wheat allotment The U.S. Department-of Agriculture has called for public comment on the proposed size of the 1977 National wheat allotment. Under current legislation, the allotment is used as a basis for making payments to wheat growers it the market price for wheat falls below the established (target) price or if growers qualify for disaster payments. The allotment in no way constrains, nor sets a limit, on the amount of wheat thay may be planted. Legislation provides that the Secretary of Agriculture proclaim a 1977 national wheat acreage allotment not later than April 15,1976. The national allotment shall be the number of acres which Boy! If the Secretary deter mines that carryover stocks are excessive or an increase in stocks is needed to assure a desirable carryover, he may adjust the allotment by the amount he determines will accomplish the desired decrease or increase in carryover stocks. Vernon Frankhauser, . Lancaster and Tom Malinowski, Ironton were honored with awards of excellence for their efforts in individual truck main tenance. Steve Kurtz, New Holland and Gerald Martin, Lebanon, were also recognized for their main tenance efforts dealing with individual trucks and sprayer equipment. The awards were presented following a driver training seminar and sprayer inspection con ducted by the motor tran sportation service of the Agway Company. Two specialists from the transportation service were on hand for the day-long program. Don Hazard, program manager, in spected the 18 trucks representing 12 southeastern Pa. counties, for chassis safety and condition as well as individual maintenance. Art McLaughlin was on hand to inspect the sprayer equipment for efficient control and safety. The rigid inspection was carried out not only for Agway’s own benefit but for the customer who uses their sprayer services. “Because of increased environmental protection laws, we are putting more emphasis on safety and efficiency,” explained Harold Mengel, Agway’s crops specialist. “The work we do here will aid the customer in many ways.” Jack Reed, manager of the Lebanon Agway Weigh-in Division, coordinated the inspection and training programs.
