1975 farm exports
push U.S. trade
to record surplus
Farm exports were mainly
responsible (or a new record
over-all U.S. trade surplus
during calendar 1975. It all
came about despite a slight
dip in farm exports for the
year.
Here's how it worked out;
Though farm exports dipped
from $22 billion in 1974 to
$21.9 billion in 1975, farm
imports dipped even more
from $10.25 billion in 1974 to
$9.3 billion. This pushed the
agricultural trade surplus to
a record $12.6 billion, up
from a previous high of $11.7
billion in 1974.
The agricultural trade
surplus more than offset an
non-ag trade deficit to give
the U.S. a trade surplus of
$10.3 billion for the year,
topping a previous high (of
$10,275 billion) set more than
30 years earlier (in 1944).
The slight dip in
agricultural exports came
