Junge Farms’ registered Holsteins were tops in the December DHIA herd averages last month - averaging 1.89 pounds of buttcrfat per cow per day. The high Individual record was produced by “Dandy," a seven-year old Holstein in the Ray E. Bicksler herd. She pumped out 25,362 pounds of milk and 872 of fat during her 305-day lactation. This was eight percent or 7,000 head more than were on feed a year earlier. Marketings of fed cattle during the October- December quarter at 24,000 were eight percent or 2,000 head less than were marketed during the same period in 1974. There were 57.000 head placed on feed during the quarter, ten percent or 6,000 less than the same period a year ago. Expected marketings of fed cattle, if realized, during the January-March quarter at 28.000 would be eight percent or 2,ooohead more than were marketed during the same period in 1975. Cattle and calves on feed for slaughter market in the 23 major cattle feeding states totaled 12,296,000 head on January 1,1976. This is up 28 percent from a year ago. Placements of cattle and calves in the 23 states during the October-December quarter of 1975 totaled 8.3 million head, up 27 percent from this period in 1974. Marketings of fed cattle for slaughter during the October-December quarter of 1975 totaled 4.9 million head, down 11 percent from the same quarter a year ago.
