Moisture meters unveiled HARRISBURG - Penn sylvania Agriculture Deputy Secretary Raymond J. Kerstetter recently presided at the department’s first official test of a grain moisture meter. Moisture meters are used by mills to test the amount of moisture contained in a farmer’s load of grain. Deductions in payments to the fanner are made in relation to the amount of moisture in his grain. The Agriculture Depart- merit’s Bureau of Weights and Measures, according to a regulation effective Aug. 4, will now test commercial moisture meters to assure their standardization. “For the past year,” said Kerstetter at the moisture meter laboratory in the Transportation Building, “we have worked on the project to standardize moisture meters m use throughout the com monwealth. Without meaning to accuse anyone of unscrupulous practices, the fact is that some meters in use were faulty. With the facilities in this laboratory, our Bureau of Weights and Measures will be able to test moisture meters, thereby establishing standards in the Com monwealth upon which our farmers can rely.” SEE THE PATZ SILO UNLOADER ON DISPLAY AT THE LEBANON FAIR AUGUST 11-15 MARVIN J.
