Shirk Gives
Talk on
Corn Hybrids
Twin Valley Young-Adult
Farmers met on Dec. 16,1974
in the vocational agriculture
classroom of the Twin Valley
High School. Eighteen
members attended.
Glenn A. Shirk, Chester
County Agricultural Agent,
presented a program on corn
hybrids.
The corn hybrid per
formance results from the
Penn State Extension Plot
near Honey Brook were
announced and the 63
hybrids were compared in
yield, standability, and
resistance to disease.
Shirk explained how to use
this new information in
relation to past corn sum
maries when selecting
ting hybrids. He also
emphasized the im
portance of a good liming
and fertilization program
and gave some guidelines to
follow when planning for
next year’s corn crop.
Predictions for the 1975 com
season were discussed and
some possible return - ex
pense situations were
analyzed.
The groups planning
committee will hold the next
educational meeting
Tuesday, Jan. 21. The topic
for the evening will be Farm
Recordkeeping. Wives are
encouraged to attend this
meeting.
