Wayne hopes to continue

Holsteins at the home farm.
His efforts seem to be
rewarded with this honor of
Pennsylvania Distinguished
Holstein Boy for 1974.
Linda Lou Kauffman, 17,
of Elizabethtown, Pa. was
recently named a finalist in
the Distinguished Junior
Member Contest. She used
her eight years of experience
in 4-H and seven years as a
Junior Holstein Member to

Pa. Holstein Association Honors Area Youth
Richard Krall
win this honor. Linda now
owns 7 Registered
Holslteins, 6 females and a
bull named Roscoe. Her cow,
Penn Springs Bill Maid, was
the top selling cow in the
Penn Springs Dispersal in
1972.
Linda, currently a senior
in high school, is a member
of the Band Front and
Chorus. She was on Lan
caster County’s winning 4-H
Dairy Judging Team. In
addition to church activities,
she sings with a group called
“A New Song.”
Cynthia Knight, 16, of
Airville, Pa. has earned
finalist honors in the Pa.
Distinguished Junior
Member Contest. The York
County girl was one of 9
named from contestants
from across all of Penn
sylvania. Miss Knight,
President of the York County
Junior Holstein Club, owns
17 Registered Holsteins. She
has eleven cows on DHI test

Cindy has served as
President of the Milk and
Money 4-H Dairy Club and
has carried sewing and
cooking projects in addition
to her dairy work. She has
attended State 4-H Days the
last two years and was also a
delegate to the Pa. 4-H Club
Congress.
At Kennard-Dale High
School, she is active in
basketball, hockey,
volleyball and chorus.
Sylvia Cooper, 18, of
Slippery Rock in Butler
County, has gained a finalist
spot in the Pa. Distinguished
Junior Member Contest.
Miss Cooper was Western
Pa’s, lone winner in this
year’s contest. The daughter
of Mr. & Mrs. Wade Cooper,
she now attends Slippery
Rock State College and is in
her Sophomore year,
majoring in environmental
science. Still living at home,
she is able to help out on the

family-run farm operation.
She owns 5 Registered
Holsteins. One of her cows
has a record of 20,000 lbs. of
milk while another is scored
Very Good at 85 points.
Sylvia’s records show she
sold nearly $4,000 worth of
milk last year along. She is
also active in sewing
projects, church youth
groups, and sings in the
choir.
Sandy Lynn Miller, 17, of
Hamburg RD2, earned
finalist honors in the recent
Pennsylvania Distinguished
Junior Member Contest.
Sandy was this year’s Berks
County winner and competed
with other winners from
across the state. She
currently owns 9 Registered
Holsteins. Miss Miller is a 9
year veteran of the
Virginville 4-H Club and has
also been a a Junior Member
of the Holstein Association
for that long.
Along with her 4-H dairy
projects, Sandy has carried
numerous sewing, cooking,
knitting, photography, and
teen leader projects. She
represented her county in 4-

Susan Seidel
H Dairy judging at Penn
State and has attended the
P.A.F.C. Institute. She was
also a leader at the recent 4-
H Club Congress.
At school, she is busy with
sports, playing on cham
pionship hockey, basketball,
and softball teams at
Hamburg Area High School.
Miss Miller has also received
the Presidential Physical
Fitness Award among other
athletic honors.
Richard Krall, 17, a senior
at Cedar Crest High School
in Lebanon County, was one
of three boys named as
finalists in the Pa.
Distinguished Junior
Holstein Member Contest.
Krall has 8 head of
Registered Holsteins and
seven in the milking string.
He has shown at the county,
district and state 4-H and
FFA shows, compiling an
impressive record of blue
ribbons.

in both 4-H and FFA, he has
participated in public
speaking contests and was a
state winner with a
demonstration on “hoof

Nevin Mast, 19, of
Morgantown was selected as
a finalist in the 1974
Distinguished Junior
Member Contest. He is
currently building his own
herd in Morgantown, Pa.,
waiting to start farming on
his own. Mast now owns 20
head, mostly heifers which
he hopes will form bis
foundation herd.

honors, Nevin has been
named County Star Fanner
and has been awarded the
Keystone Fanner Degree
Other awards included the
DeKalb Award, Elks Youth
Award, Danforth Award,
and medals for public
speaking, crop and dairy
production. Mast has
served as President of his
FFA Chapter, 4-H club and
was a State FTA officer. Ht
